The Thormanby Islands were volcanically formed south of the equator 252 – 210 million years ago and were much later surrounded by the Quadra Sands before the last ice age, 25 000 years ago. Geologist Peter Hews will guide us through the “hands on history” of the volcanic bedrock and tectonic collisions evident today.

August 26th and September 9th are classroom sessions in the ElderCollege room at the back of the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre at 5714 Medusa St.

Sept 2 is a four-hour field trip that includes riding in a boat from Buccaneer Marina in Secret Cove to Thormanby Island.

$40 Course Fee + $105 Extra for Boat Trip
