This course is about emotions as understood from the perspective of psychological science. Historically seen as irrational, problematic, subjective and difficult if not impossible to study scientifically, the study of emotions has become an active field of interdisciplinary inquiry with steady advances in our understanding of what they are, how they work and what they accomplish.  The course will address central and active themes in the field.

Ken Prkachin, PhD, taught at UBC and the University of Waterloo before founding the Psychology Department at UNBC in 1993. At UNBC, he taught the psychology of emotion for 16 years. His research has focused on the role of emotion in health, with particular emphasis on the regulation and expression of pain. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association.
