The Thormanby Islands were volcanically formed south of the equator between 252 and 210 million years ago and were much later surrounded by the Quadra Sands before the last ice age, 25 000 years ago. Geologist Peter Hews will guide us through the “hands on history” of the volcanic bedrock and tectonic collisions evident today.
This course has a three-hour field trip that includes riding in a boat from Secret Cove to Thormanby Island.
