The Thormanby Islands were volcanically formed south of the equator 252 – 210 million years ago and were much later surrounded by the Quadra Sands before the last ice age, 25 000 years ago. Geologist Peter Hews will guide us through the “hands on history” of the volcanic bedrock and tectonic collisions evident today.
This course has a three-hour field trip that includes riding in a boat from Secret Cove to Thormanby Island.

For the field trip on August 30th, an additional fee of $90 will be collected at the first session on August 23rd. Payment can be in cash or by cheque made out to the Sunshine Coast ElderCollege Society.
