Light and Illumination are powerful religious and spiritual metaphors as well as among the very material fundamentals of our modern existence. Oil lamps, torches, candles; streetlights, headlights, search lights; neon lights, strobe lights, footlights; fireworks, son et lumière. These are just a few of many examples of how artificial light makes possible and affects our daily lives, for good or ill.
In this class we will learn how, from ancient times to the present day, humans have used light to control their environment and illustrate their stories–even to explore the very meaning of life.
