Revealing the Invisible: The Art & Science of the Microscope
This course introduces microscopy — both as a hobby and as a tool for exploration within various scientific disciplines. Half of each class will be spent dealing with the history of the microscope and its use in science, with practical demonstrations using the CapU laboratory microscopes and A/V system. The second half will be hands-on, with participants carrying out safe experiments that illustrate key aspects of botany, biology and microbiology. Sample preparation and slide making will be covered. We will cover how to choose a microscope for yourself or for a child and on how to get the very best from it.
